THE HIP-HOP ARCHITECT LECTURE & YOUTH WORKSHOP

BosNOMA is pleased to announce that we will be hosting an event with Micheal Ford (aka the Hip-Hop Architect) August 3rd & 4th at the BSA.

Michael Ford is a designer, researcher and the founder of Hip-Hop Architecture. Over the past decade, Ford has been working to blur the lines between professional practice and academia. He is dedicated to stimulating cross disciplinary discourse between practitioners and residents on the sociological and cultural implications of architecture and urban planning on its inhabitants. Ford has spoken about the impact of modern urban architecture in communities at TEDx Madison in 2016, was part of a keynote panel at the A’17 Conference on Architecture in Orlando, FL, and is launching his book, Hip Hop Architecture 101, this summer.

If you’re interested in attending this event, please be sure to RSVP on the BSA website. Also, you can find the Facebook event page here.

We are looking for 7-8 volunteers (a ratio of 1 volunteer to 5 youth attendees) to help facilitate the workshop.  If you or someone you may know is interested in applying to be a volunteer please fill out the application and submit by July 21st at 5 pm. Please find the application here. Volunteers will be notified by July 28th.

Member Bio: Bre’anna Romulus

2016-10-26-07320

Being a people-person is one of her fortes. BréAnna’s knack for consistently keeping a positive outlook and incorporating her passion for design into her work enable her to bring team members together to build strong and lasting client relationships.  She was drawn to pursue a career in architecture when she realized how much the built environment impacts daily life, from the retail stores people shop in to the homes that they live in. BréAnna is most passionate about how architecture can transform old into a new creation that augments the end user’s experience. Each day she is excited to have the opportunity to use her creativity to put a smile on someone’s face and make the world a better place through design. BréAnna studied architecture at Andrews University, which is where she received her Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Master of Architecture degrees and is currently a designer at DREAM Collaborative.

An informal conversation with Abby Gordon

In addition, the BSA will be hosting her opening reception on March 2, 2017. For more details on this BSA event, please visit the BSA website.

It was with great delight for members of BosNOMA to be a part of a conversation with Phil Freelon and Zena Howard about the new National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), graciously hosted by Perkins+Will Boston on November 3, 2016. BosNOMA members alongside P+W Boston staff and a host of inspired high school students gathered to hear Phil and Zena speak about why they are proud to be African American, and what they hope the Smithsonian museum will offer visitors for years to come. They also shared insight on the competition collaboration, design process as well as construction challenges and achievements.

Three weeks after the grand opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., visitors continue to flock there from all over the world to learn and be inspired by “A People’s Journey, A Nation’s Story.” In this second installment of In Their Own Words – Perkins+Will’s new video series – Phil, Lead Architect and Zena, Senior Project Manager, share what it’s meant to them, personally, to contribute to this monumental project.
