MLK: DAY OF SERVICE
In the spirit of Martin Luther’s King Jr.’s legacy of building community and providing solutions to our nation’s most pressing national problems, BosNOMA in Partnership with Gensler will be hosting an essentials kit drive for those affected by homelessness.
This initiative works to empower individuals, strengthen our communities, bridge barriers, create solutions to social problems, and move us closer to Dr. King's vision of a "Beloved Community.” We will be working with a local organization, On The Rise, to prepare and donate 100 essential kits to their participants. We encourage all of you to dedicate either your day or your support to this Act of Service.
On The Rise is a day program that works with women and gender diverse people who:
Are homeless and lack a permanent, safe, secure place to live
Are in crisis
Have experienced traumatic physical and/or emotional abuse by people and/or systems
Are falling through the cracks of our human service system because of the multiple and complex issues they face, and
Are living in severe poverty (even after they are housed)
The work begins with individuals experiencing homelessness and continues if and when
they secure housing. Guided by the strength and initiative of their program participants, they join their journey through two main programs: the Safe Haven and Keep The Keys. Our home is open five days per week and provides tangible essentials for survival and all the amenities of a dignified home. Our home is a welcoming non-institutional setting that affirms our esteem for the people within it and provides the safety, relationships and resources for surviving day-to-day and reaching long-term goals.
